Description

A princess cut diamond is a square or slightly rectangular "square modified brilliant" cut known for its geometric lines, sharp 90-degree corners, and high-brilliance sparkle. • Key Characteristics: • Shape & Outline: Square or rectangular when viewed from above, with a pyramid-like profile from the side. • Corners: Features four distinct, sharp, pointed corners that require protective settings (like V-prongs) to prevent chipping. • Facets: Typically features 50 to 78 facets (commonly 57 or 76) arranged in a brilliant or chevron pattern to maximize light return. • Grading Certificate: Listed as a square (or rectangular) modified brilliant on official gemmological reports (such as GIA), as laboratories do not issue a formal cut grade for fancy shapes. • History: Developed in the 1960s and refined in 1980 by Betzalel Ambar, Ygal Perlman, and Israel Itzkowitz. • Ideal Proportions & Buying Tips: • Length-to-Width Ratio: 1.00 to 1.05 for a classic square look; ratios above 1.05 appear rectangular. • Table & Depth: Look for an ideal table percentage around 62%–72% and depth percentage around 64%–75%. • Colour: G–J grades offer a great value balance for yellow or rose gold, while D–F are better for icy white or platinum settings. • Clarity: SI1 or higher is usually eye-clean, as the brilliant faceting pattern helps hide minor inclusions (though you should watch for flaws near the sharp corners) • Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds, sharing the exact crystal structure and hardness. They are not diamond simulants. When it comes to sparkle, both lab-grown and mined diamonds are comparable, displaying the full range of quality characteristics. • This lab grown diamond has been certified.
